FAQs
What does it mean to be neurodivergent?
Neurodivergent is a newer term that includes anyone whose brain permanently works or processes in a different way than a neurotypical brain. Autism, ADHD, mental health conditions, learning disabilities like dyslexia, giftedness and more all fall under this umbrella term. Neurodivergence is NOT a problem that needs to be “fixed,” it’s a different way of experiencing, processing and interacting with the world. We wouldn’t have modern physics, airplanes, Pokemon or countless other important contributions to our world without neurodivergent people. For more information on neurodivergence, check out this blog post here.
What does it mean to be neurodivergent-affirming?
Being neurodivergent affirming means we see neurodivergence, address neurodivergent individual needs and support the strengths of neurodivergent individuals. It means respecting lived experiences, understanding the impact of diagnoses, and creating strategies that work with the brain—not against it. I work with families and individuals to understand these differences and use them as a foundation for support, not something to be corrected. Looking for ways to support someone with neurodivergence? How are you different from other therapists, EF coaches, or tutors?
Many traditional services focus on surface-level solutions. I go deeper. I work to understand the whole person—their diagnosis, their environment, and how their brain uniquely processes information. I support neurodivergent families, kids, and individuals through resources such as my newsletter, my podcast with school psychologist and social coach Breann Colpitts where we deep dive on current neurodivergent topics and supports, my courses and at an individual level through my 1:1 services. All of my information and resources are research-backed. I combine clinical expertise with educational experience to provide an integrated approach that empowers individuals and families to work with their strengths and meet their individual goals.
Therapy and coaching differ and serve different purposes. Therapy often focused on exploring emotions, processing past events, and addressing mental health concerns. There may also be ongoing emotional work between sessions. Coaching centers on problem-solving and skill building. Coaching typically includes a built-in accountability component. Who is this site for?
This space is for families navigating life with neurodivergent children—especially parents looking for compassionate, practical, affirming support. I also work with neurodivergent adults, professionals, and educators.
How do I know if my child is neurodivergent or needs extra support?
This is a common question and wondering for many parents! This is also a more complex answer, which is why I’ve created a course that can be used to support your family’s specific situation and help you get the answers you’re looking for without spending a ton of time in multiple specialists' offices. If you're wondering whether your child might benefit from an evaluation or additional support, my on-demand course will give you the tools you need to identify and take action on next steps for your child.
